PART 4: Be Prepared
General Pre-Planning
The recital isn’t a one-day activity. This section has some tips so that you can be prepared for your dancer’s special day.
General Pre-Planning Tips :
- Know the name of your dancer’s dance . It will be posted on the website and next to her/his costume in December. Most information about recital will refer to the Dance Name.
- Pay your Recital Fee early . It gives you a priority number for when to purchase your recital tickets.
- Check the Website and Recital Bulletin Board Frequentely for Updates. Read the Newsletters for additional information.
- Attend your dancer’s class in May . You can videotape the dance for home practice and find out what side of the stage she/he will be on so you know where to buy your recital tickets.
- Know which Recital your Dancer is In. A preliminary line up will be posted in mid to late March. This will help you with buying recital tickets and planning for dress rehearsal and recital day.
- Attend Costume Week.
- Plan Ahead for Tickets -- Look at the seating chart of MacDonald Auditorium BEFORE your recital ticket appointment and find out who wants to attend your dancer’s performance. If you know which side of the stage your dancer performs on, which recital she/he is in and how many tickets you’ll need BEFORE your Recital Ticket appointment, your recital ticket purchase will go much smoother.
- Review the Crescenta Valley High School Diagram before Dress Rehearsal. It will help you know where to go on dress rehearsal and recital day.
Costume Pre-Planning
We do our best to help you plan by providing demonstrations of how costume and hair should look during Costume Week. For dancer’s under the age of 12, it is essential that a parent or guardian attend your dancer’s class during Costume Week. For dancer’s in Level classes, it is mandatory that you attend class during Costume Week.
Gather all costumes, accessories, shoes, and makeup several days in advance of recital so you’ll know if something is missing or isn’t right. Print out and highlight the costume breakdown that will be posted on the RDC website, it will list the costume, tights, shoes, and any accessories, and refer to it to make sure you have all your supplies before going to the theater for Dress Rehearsal and Recital.
Bring at least one extra pair of tights of each color. Also bring extra hair gel, hair nets, bobby pins, and hairspray.
Tips : Other Handy Extras
- Baby wipes/Shout wipes (to fix makeup mistakes or wash hands)
- Baby powder (for itchy costumes)
- Safety pins (for emergency costume repairs)
- Clear nail polish (to repair minor holes or runs in tights when there isn’t time to change them)
- Your pain reliever of choice
- Band-Aids (the “invisible” kind)
Recital Dance Line-Up and Name Spell Check
Once the Recital Line-Up is complete, it will be posted on the Recital Bulletin Board across from the bathrooms. We anticipate posting the line ups in mid to late March. Once it is posted, please review the list to make sure that your child is listed in all dances that she/he is participating in for recital and that the name is spelled correctly. Please correct any spelling errors and initial next to your child’s name. Inform the Front Desk if your child’s name is missing. We apologize in advance if we have left anyone’s name off the list – That is why we are asking Dancers/families to double check with us before the recital Memory Book is printed. Please begin to become acquainted with the name of your child’s dance. There will be some quick changes, but, where possible, they have been spaced as far apart as possible. Each dance routine is approximately 2.5 to 3 min. in length. When possible, we tried to place students with 3 or fewer dances in the same show and we tried our best to place siblings in the same recital show. In some cases, it was impossible due to number of dances, gap in age between the siblings, or other constraints.
Ticket Purchase Pre-Planning
We have changed the recital ticket purchase process this year. Recital ticket priority numbers/appointment times will be handed out when the recital fee is paid so pay your recital fee early for best priority number.
Make it a point to find out which recital your dancer will be in. A preliminary recital line up will be posted in mid to late March, listed by the dance name.
Attached to the back of this package is a seating chart of MacDonald Auditorium. Review it BEFORE your recital ticket appointment and find out who wants to attend your dancer’s performance. If you know which side of the stage your dancer performs on, which recital she/he is in and how many ticket you’ll need BEFORE your recital ticket appointment, your recital ticket purchase will go much smoother.
