What should I wear to class?
 

Class Dress Code
Wearing appropriate clothing and shoes to dance is very important. It allows a dancer freedom of movement and provides the teacher with “line of sight” to see and hear body movement and placement to provide feedback, helping the dancer grow and improve.

Revolution Kids—

Dancers may wear any comfortable clothing to class but No Jeans. Tap and ballet shoes should be worn to combination Tap and Ballet classes. Tennis shoes may be worn to Hip Hop classes. For Beginning Ballet 5-6 years, students should wear a white leotard, pink tights and pink ballet shoes to all classes. Ballet skirts are optional.

All Other Classes (except Ballet)--

Dancers may wear any comfortable clothing to class but No Jeans. In general, the teacher should be able to see your feet (Capri pants or shorts/skorts are preferred to full length jazz pants for combo and tap classes) and tops should be form fitting enough so the teacher can assess correct body placement. Tap and ballet shoes should be worn to all combo classes, jazz shoes are not required. Tennis shoes may be worn to Hip Hop classes.

Ballet Class –

Girls must wear leotards and pink tights to all ballet-only classes. Ballet skirts and booty shorts are optional. Any color leotard can be worn to the following classes: Contemporary, Ballet Turns/Leaps, Variations, Pre-Pointe and Pointe 1. All other ballet classes have required colored leotards, based on age and/or level.

All Ballet (5-6 years) – White Leotard

All Ballet (7-9 years) – Lavender Leotard

All Ballet (10-12 years) – Raspberry Leotard

Teen Ballet – Raspberry Leotard

Intermediate Ballet – Raspberry Leotard

Int/Adv. Ballet – Purple Leotard

Advanced Ballet – Royal Leotard

Ballet students should wear their hair in a bun for ballet class.

All leotards are available in the RDC Store.

Other Dress Code Issues — Hair must be pulled back away from the face in a ponytail, bun or similar style. Hair should be secured with clips/bobby pins so that it will not fall out during class.

Dancers may be asked to leave class if not dressed appropriately or if hair is not pulled back.
 
What do levels mean?
LEVEL 1  Ages 13 & up

    Beginner - Most basic class; geared to people with very little         dance background, people with no background may still take this class.

LEVEL 2 Ages 13 & up

Intermediate- This level is at a slightly faster pace, picking up some new moves and terminology. It is assumed that the student has mastered the basic steps, turns, etc.

LEVEL 3 Ages 13 & up

Advanced- Warm-ups longer, more technical, strenuous: combinations longer, taught more quickly, so students learn to pick-up more quickly for use in auditions and professional work.

DANCERS SHOW RESPECT FOR THEMSELVES BY:

 

1.  Being prompt for class and rehearsal

2.  Being dressed properly for class and rehearsal

3.  Hair up off the neck and pulled back (see required attire)

4.  Shoe strings tied and tucked in

5.  Giving 150% in every class and rehearsal

6.  Being prepared for every class, rehearsal and competition

 

DANCERS SHOW RESPECT FOR OTHERS BY:

 

1.  Keeping their hands to themselves in class

2.  Waiting quietly for others to have a turn

3.  Waiting until the music is finished before entering a classroom

4.  Always walking along the sides of the room and never across the middle of the dance floor during class.

5.  Being prompt and ready for class

6.  Waiting until the previous class has exited before entering the studio for their own class

7.   Setting a good example for all dancers

 

DANCERS SHOW RESPECT FOR THEIR TEACHER AND DANCE AS AN ART FORM BY:

 

1.  Being properly dressed and ready for class and rehearsal on time

2.  Listening when the teacher speaks

3.  Being prepared for their turn

4.  Always asking the teacher before leaving the room for any reason

5.  Applauding the teacher at the end of every class

6.  Not disrupting class while waiting for your turn

7.  Giving 150% in every class and rehearsal

8.  Never chewing gum in class

 

DANCERS SHOW RESPECT FOR THE STUDIO BY: 

 

1.  Never hanging on the barres

2.  Leaving gum, food, or drinks (besides water) outside the studio

3.  Putting trash in the proper places

4.  Putting personal items in appropriate places (cubbies, lockers etc.)

Waiting Area/Parent Lounge Behavior

No – Running, Climbing on Furniture, Screaming or Yelling, Roughhousing, Throwing toys or books.

Parents must remain with and supervise their children at all times. No children under 12 years of age are allowed in the RDC store without a parent. No one under the age of 18 is allowed behind the Front Desk, unless they are an employee of RDC and are working. Monitors are provided in the lounges to view class. Please do not enter a class unless invited by the teacher. Shoes, backpacks and bags should be placed in the lounge cubbies. Children may sit on the lounge floor, but there must be enough room for exiting or walking through the lounge area. The Faculty Lounge and office are for faculty and staff ONLY. The Locker Room is for Company students and unlimited students with lockers only. Please respect these areas.

Study Room Behavior

Study rooms are provided for dancers and/or siblings to finish homework, quiet reading or other quiet activities. No loud voices, roughhousing, or loud play is allowed in the study rooms. If the front desk gets any complaints, you may be asked to leave the study room.

 
What if I am going to miss a class?
Students are expected to be present and on time for all classes. Please notify the school if you expect to be absent. Please arrive promptly, but not more than 15 minutes prior to class time. Parents, please pick your children up promptly at the end of class.
Attendance Policies : Absences must be reported to the Front Desk prior to the beginning of class. RDC reserves the right to have dancers arriving 10 minutes or more late to class or who do not dress in appropriate dance attire, sit out the remainder of class and just observe. Warm up is critical in preventing injury and to enhance the productivity of the class. A minimum attendance level will be required. Dancers missing more than 5 classes or 3 consecutive classes after March may not be allowed to participate in the year-end Recital and there will be no refunds of costume or recital fees.

Make Up Policy . Any missed classes may be made up by attending a class of same level or lower or same age range within the same calendar month. If the dancer miss classes in the last week of a calendar month, the dancer may make up the class before the 15 th of the following calendar month. No credits or refunds are given for missed classes. It is the dancers' responsibility to track missed classes (including dates missed). The front desk will verify the missed class prior to granting a makeup. If you are making up a class, you must go to the front desk and get a make-up slip to give the teacher. There are no makeups for classes missed because of holidays, for Unlimited dancers, or for classes missed in any other calendar month.
 
Is there a dance recital?
RDC holds an annual dance recital. All of our students, regardless of level, are invited to participate. The next recital is Saturday, June 15th, 2008.
 
How can I join the Dance Company?
Auditions for JK's Dance Company are held once per year in the spring.
