RDC Ballet Program

RDC offers ballet-only classes for ages 5 and up.  Classes for the majority of students ages 5 to 12 years are divided by age and experience – Beginning and Advanced for ages 5 and 6; Beginning, Intermediate & Advanced for ages 7 to 12.  Dancers who want to be placed in either Intermediate or Advanced classes must be evaluated by RDC’s Ballet Director for placement.  Some dancers under the age of 12 will be admitted into our Level Track program, at the discretion of RDC’s Ballet Director.

For ages 13 and up, there are two different ballet tracks – Teen Track and Level Track.  The Level Track is NOT for every dancer and dancers must be evaluated by RDC’s Ballet Director to be placed in the Level Track Program.  The Level Track requires a minimum of 3 ballet classes per week (3 hours at Level 2, 4 hours at Level 2/3 and 3 and 5 hours at RBC Snr.)   It also requires a commitment to progressing towards work “en pointe”.  The Level Track requires a serious commitment to ballet BUT may not be physically appropriate for every dancer – some dancer’s feet and/or ankles are not anatomically suited for pointe work.  Some dancers may not be able to commit to regularly attending all the required Level classes because of other commitments (sports, music, cheerleading, school work etc).   Attendance in all Level ballet classes is essential to avoiding injury, especially to those dancers on pointe.

Level 2 Ballet: This class is designed for the Intermediate level dancer who has completed a minimum of 2 years of ballet classes and has continually progressed and improved in those classes. This class will meet 2 times a week for one hour. This class will reinforce the basics of body placement and terminology. Every dancer enrolled in this level is also required to enroll in the 1 hour pre-pointe class. Taking this class along with the level 2 classes will increase their strength and abilities to become a stronger dancer. Please note-some dancers will take the pre-pointe class in ballet slippers until their ankles and bodies are strong enough to withstand the pointe shoes. The teacher will let each dancer know individually when they will need to purchase pointe shoes.

Level 2/3 Ballet: This class is designed for the Intermediate/Advanced level dancer who has completed a minimum of 3 years of ballet classes and displays improved strength and flexibility in those classes. This class will meet 2 times a week for 1 1 /2 hours each class. This class will continue with the principles learned in Level 2. Every dancer enrolled in this level is also required to enroll in the 1 hour Level 2/3 pointe class. Dancers in this level will have had to complete one year of pre-pointe before being able to be in this class. The exercises will be more challenging and will expand on the principles introduced in their pre-pointe class.

Level 3 Ballet: This class is designed for the Advanced level dancer who has completed a minimum of 4 years of ballet classes and has displayed great strength, musicality and flexibility from those previous classes. This class will meet 2 times a week for 1 1/2 hours each class. This class is designed for the dancer who is more experienced and has developed into a well-trained dancer. Every dancer is this class is required to enroll in the 1 hour Level 3 pointe class. This class will be for the dancer who has been en pointe for a minimum of 2 years. This class is designed for the experienced dancer.

RBC Senior: This class is for the most advanced dancer. This class meets 3 times a week in addition to extra rehearsal time. Two classes will be held en pointe.  Acceptance in this class is by audition only and requires participation in RDC’s Holiday Show and various community performances.

RBC Junior:  This class is for younger students who are progressing rapidly in RDC’s ballet program and who show a desire to regularly perform in ballet pieces.  Acceptance in this class is by audition only and requires participation in RDC’s Holiday Show and various community performances.
